    Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation Recruits Nine New Providers for San Francisco Network

    San Francisco, CA, July 20, 2010--

    Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation announced today the addition of nine new providers to its San Francisco medical group. Internist Charles Delatore, M.D., joins as a primary care physician. New specialty physicians coming on board include: pediatric cardiologist Sarina Behera, M.D., FAAP, FACC; pediatric intensivist Lorry Frankel, M.D., MBA; maternal-fetal medicine specialist Bonnie Dwyer, M.D.; neurologists/epilepsy specialists David King-Stephens, M.D., and Kenneth Laxer, M.D.; neurosurgeon Peter B. Weber, M.D.; and internal medicine specialist/hospitalist Young-Sin Kim, M.D. The Foundation adds one new allied health provider: neuropsychologist William McMullen, Jr., Ph.D., ABCN, ABPP. The recent additions expand the Foundation’s membership to more than 130 primary and specialty care providers in San Francisco.

    Charles Delatore, M.D., is board-certified in internal medicine and is located at 595 Buckingham Way. Dr. Delatore received his M.D. from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and completed his internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.     Sarina Behera, M.D., FAAP, FACC
    , board-certified in both pediatric cardiology and pediatrics, is located at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic at 3700 California Street. Dr. Behera received her M.D. at Stanford University School of Medicine followed by an internship and residency at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Behera’s professional interests include: congenital and acquired heart disease; non-invasive imaging; fetal cardiac diagnosis and management; and sports cardiac screening.     Lorry Frankel, M.D., MBA, is a pediatric intensivist board-certified in both pediatric critical care and pediatrics. He is located at 3700 California Street. Dr. Frankel received his M.D. at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He did his internship in pediatrics at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, followed by residencies at UCSF Medical Education Program; Valley Medical Center in Fresno; and Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno. Dr. Frankel completed fellowships in pediatric critical care at Moffitt Hospital in San Francisco; Children’s Hospital of San Diego; UCSF Medical Education Program; Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno; and UC San Diego Medical Center. He is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Frankel’s interests include pediatric resuscitation, pediatric critical care, transport of critically ill infants and children, and pediatric palliative care.     Bonnie Dwyer, M.D., FACOG, is board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine as well as in obstetrics and gynecology and in internal medicine. She is located at 3700 California Street. Dr. Dwyer received her M.D. at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, followed by an internship at UCSF Medical Center. She did residencies at UCSF Medical Center (internal medicine) and Stanford University Medical Center (obstetrics and gynecology). Dr. Dwyer also completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Stanford University Medical Center. Her interests include prenatal diagnosis and medical complications in pregnancy including maternal heart disease, hypertension, kidney disease and autoimmune disease.     David King-Stephens, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist specializing in epilepsy and is located at 2100 Webster Street. He received his M.D. at Universidad La Salle’s Escuela Mexicana de Medicina in Mexico City followed by an internship in internal medicine at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut and a residency in neurology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Dr. King-Stephens completed a fellowship in epilepsy/EEG at Yale University’s New Haven Hospital. He is currently Director of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Sutter Pacific Epilepsy Program and serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California. Dr. King-Stephens’ professional interests include surgical treatment of epilepsy, clinical trials in epilepsy, and invasive EEG studies. He is fluent in Spanish and can be reached at (415) 600-7880.

    Kenneth Laxer, M.D., is board-certified in neurology and specializes in epilepsy. He joins the Foundation’s Neuroscience Division at 2100 Webster Street. Dr. Laxer received his M.D. at UC Irvine followed by an internship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He did his residency in neurology and neurophysiology at Montreal Neurologic Institute, McGill University. Dr. Laxer completed a fellowship at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center in Portland. He is currently Medical Director of the Sutter Pacific Epilepsy Program as well as Professor Emeritus in Neurology at UCSF.     Peter B. Weber, M.D., a board-certified neurosurgeon, is also located at 2100 Webster Street. He received his M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine followed by an internship and residency at University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital. Dr. Weber completed a fellowship at University of Washington Hospital. His is currently Chief of the Division of Neurological Surgery at California Pacific Medical Foundation. Dr. Weber’s special interests include: surgical treatments of epilepsy; minimally invasive spine surgery; complex spine surgery; surgery for Parkinson’s Disease; brain tumors; spondylolisthesis; microvascular decompression (for hemifacial spasms or trigeminal neuralgia); spinal disc arthroplasty; restorative spine surgery; kyphoplasty; endoscopic surgical techniques; endoscopic carpal tunnel release; and lumbar or cervical disc disease.     Young-Sin Kim, M.D., board-certified in internal medicine, joins the Foundation as a hospitalist serving only in-hospital patients at California Pacific Medical Center. She received her M.D. at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine followed by an internship at California Pacific Medical Center and a residency at UC San Diego Medical Center.     William McMullen, Jr., Ph.D., ABCN, ABPP, is board-certified in clinical neuropsychology with a special interest in epilepsy studies. He is located at 2100 Webster Street. Dr. McMullen received both his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, with a doctoral specialization in clinical neuropsychology. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital, UCLA Center for the Health Sciences. He is currently Director of Neuropsychological Services at the Sutter Pacific Epilepsy Program and serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California.
