Nationally-recognized Cancer Nurse Joins Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation

Santa Rosa, CA, November 1, 2010--Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation announced that Cynthia Cantril, RN, MPH, OCN has joined the Foundation as Program Manager for Cancer Services/Patient Navigation.
Cantril, who recently served as Coordinator of Cancer Support Services and Nurse Navigator at St. Helena Hospital (California), is well known across the country for her innovative work in the field of cancer nursing. In May 2010, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the national Oncology Nursing Society; she has also received Marin County’s Zero Breast Cancer 2007 award for Healing Professional. Cantril has spoken at international cancer conferences, and has trained nurses from other countries regarding cancer care.
In her new role, Cantril will provide nurse navigation services and coordinate patient care to all types of cancer patients throughout Sutter Pacific, with the goal of ensuring that they are supported throughout the cancer treatment process.
Cantril, a trained Cancer Guide™, developed a free-standing community based cancer support center in Montana. Throughout her career, Cantril has developed a number of innovative programs for cancer patients, including a Healing with Horses research study that explored the healing effect of the human /equine bond in a cancer survivor population. In addition, she brought the women’s cancer retreat concept to Marin and Sonoma counties.
“Cindi has dedicated her professional life to service the needs of cancer patients in Northern California, Montana and Missouri,” reported Chris Rogers, Chief Administrative Officer of Sutter Pacific’s North Bay Region. “We are fortunate to have someone of her caliber, and know that she will bring our Cancer Services Program to a new level.”
Cantril also served as the Breast Program Coordinator/Nurse Navigator for Marin General Hospital when it was a Sutter Health affiliate. She holds a nursing degree St Louis Community College, a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lindenwood College (St. Louis) and a master’s in public health from the University of California (Berkeley).
