Weight Loss Surgery Informational Seminars and Support Groups

For individuals interested in weight loss surgery, we offer monthly support groups in San Francisco and Novato. These education and support sessions are led by Gregg Jossart, M.D., who directs Sutter Pacific’s Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Endocrine Surgery program.

Meetings offer a welcoming environment for individuals contemplating weight loss surgery to learn:

If you are a good candidate for surgery
How weight loss surgery can improve diabetes and weight-related medical issues
Gastric banding and stapling options
What to expect before and after surgery
Potential risks and complications
Life after surgery and keeping the weight off

The first hour provides attendees with the latest information about surgery options, as well as the opportunity to pose questions about candidacy for surgery, risks and potential complications, what to expect before and after surgery, and weight maintenance. The second hour provides a forum for patients to share experiences, challenges and discuss life after surgery.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask Dr. Jossart questions and find support among others considering bariatric surgery or who have successfully completed surgery. Occasional guest speakers include dietitians, plastic surgeons and psychologists.
